 The Secure Ruggedized Notebook - the Mitac new M220 is the first industrial class notebook computer that has embedded Enova®'s X-Wall® LX real-time IDE cryptographic gateway to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of the entire disk content without performance degradation. The M220 exceeds the standards set by the military (810F, 410E) and industry (IP54), and is priced less than many of the competitors' offers. With a 1.4GHz Intel Dothan LV processor (Pentium M) with CentrinoT Mobile Technology, the M220 features performance, reliable operation, and wireless connection. The M220 design is certified by IP54 and Mil-STD 810F. The Mil-STD 410E certification is optional. The M220 is engineered to survive the extreme use and needs of today's "on-the-go" road warriors in field service, utilities, construction, telecommunications, military, police, fire and emergency services (EMS), data collection in science, oil and gas exploration where wind-blown, heavy rain, three-foot drops off the back of a truck, and temperatures from -4 to +130?F may be encountered.
Enova® X-Wall LX-40 safeguards entire drive volume via the NIST/CSE certified standard DES 40-bit hardware cryptographic engine. Higher encryption strength such as TDES 128/192-bit can be obtained via swapping the appropriate X-Wall LX and cryptographic key length. Unlike software-based encryption solutions, hardware based security offers hard security and platform compatibility without performance degradation. The entire drive volume including boot sector, file allocation table, operating system, temporarily and swap files is DES/TDES encrypted. There is no possibility that any clear text be left unprotected. User’s pre-boot administrative password is converted into the “Cryptographic Key (or Secret Key)” which is sent to the X-Wall to enable the disk drive during power up or resume from the hibernation state. The “Secret Key” is erased after it is sent to the X-Wall to enable the drive. No places other than the X-Wall registers does the “Secret Key” exist. The new Secure Ruggedized Notebook provides unsurpassed security for your private and sensitive data. Please reference to Gartner’s comments about using hardware security solution: “Hardware is also not invulnerable to attack, but it generally requires much more sophisticated attackers with larger budgets than those that typically succeed against software-only security options. When information is sensitive, valuable or ‘must be trusted not to change’, hardware has to be part of the solution.”
Unlike software based disk encryption, the X-Wall LX delivers unprecedented 1.6 giga bit per second bandwidth, which completely eliminates overheads/interrupts and offers real-time performance for the operations of encryption and decryption. The operation is totally transparent to users, whose regular computing behavior remains unchanged.
Your Total Cost of Ownership is minimized as no software upgrades, patches are ever required to maintain the cryptographic functionalities. Beside, there is no changes whatsoever to your existing IT security infrastructure, which dramatically reduces your IT management overheads. Users of the new Secure Notebook require no training, as your password is your Secret Key to the entire disk drive.
